This series of work was created as part of a collaborative process with friend and artist, Paula Gray. The paintings are a response to a short story she wrote about being "other" and finding joy in overlooked and unexpected places. Much of the narrative focuses around a young girl and the adults who try to help her. The setting is a small cannery town on California's central coast in the1950's. Many of the still life paintings function as portraits of the characters.
